Doug Duncan's Pledge to Oppose the Purple Line
The pledge Doug Duncan signed in 1994, when first running for county executive, to oppose light rail between Bethesda and Silver Spring — the core of what is now the Purple Line. SMARTPAC, the political action committee organized by light rail opponents, donated $2150 to Duncan's campaign that year ($500 before the September 13 primary and $1650 after the primary). Columbia Country Club held fundraisers for Duncan that raised $20,600 on November 16, 1999, and $15,850 on October 7, 2005.
