Transportation Priorities

Letter to County Council, June 26, 2017

Dear Council President Berliner and Council members,

The Action Committee for Transit was very surprised to learn that the transportation priorities letter in its current form ignores the drastic changes in WMATA service and fares that County residents are now beginning to endure.

Our requests for the transportation priorities letter:

1) Restore Metrorail and Metrobus service cuts that went into effect June 25. This includes a) return of Red Line frequency in rush hour to every 6 minutes rather than every 8 minutes, and b) Restoration of J5 and other bus routes.,

2) Do not delete the Metrobus Priority Corridors Initiative. MCDOT recommended deleting this, but gave no reason for this recommendation in their memo.

3) Check whether the letter will be reviewed by Planning Board. The normal procedure is that the priority letter is reviewed by the Planning Board, but our understanding is that the Planning Board has not seen this letter.

4) Allow sufficient time for public comment on the transportation priorities letter.

Sincerely,

Ronit Aviva Dancis

Action Committee for Transit
