Appoint Partap Verma to Planning Board

Letter to County Council, June 13, 2019

Dear Council President Navarro and Members of the Council,

The Action Committee for Transit supports the candidacy of Partap Verma for a seat on the Montgomery County Planning Board.

Partap has been a positive and successful advocate for more transit investment and better walkability and bike access both in his own neighborhood and elsewhere. (His push for advancing funds to build second entrances to Metro at the Forest Glen and White Flint stations comes to mind.)

He has a coherent vision of how the county needs more compact mixed use, transit-oriented, and walkable development, an increase in our supply of affordable housing in transit accessible areas, improvements to our bus and rail transit network, and better bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Further, Partap understands that new highways are not the solution to improving and developing our newer suburban areas, and that transit has to play a critical role in making our communities more competitive in the region and more equitable for all.

For all of these reasons ACT strongly urges you to appoint Partap Verma as a member of the Planning Board.

Sincerely,

Nick Brand

Action Committee for Transit
