Appointments to Planning Board
Letter to County Council, May 5, 2023
Dear Council President Glass and Members of the Council,
The Action Committee for Transit strongly endorses Sunil Dasgupta, PhD, for Member of the Montgomery County Planning Board.
The substance of Dr. Dasgupta’s work and the breadth and depth of his public policy engagement uniquely qualify him to help the Planning Board work on upcoming master plans and sector plans, implement Thrive 2050, update our land use regulations, and guide the M-NCPPC. His research and teaching in local governance and public policy including land use, housing, environment, education, and economic development has prepared him well to become a Planning Board Member. He has also amply demonstrated his engagement with the community, including through his candidacy for the Board of Education, his I Hate Politics podcast, his commitment to pedestrian safety, and his service on the Action Committee for Transit board.
For Chair, Hans Riemer’s master plan and budgeting experience as a former Councilmember equip him well for the role, and we appreciate many of the policy goals outlined in the application he submitted. We also recognize that Artie Harris’s leadership with the Montgomery Housing Partnership, a non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve and expand affordable rental and for-sale housing in Montgomery County, would bring value to the Planning Board.
